Hande means “let’s go!” in Shona. It is a bookmark manager for the terminal and The Textsmith’s companion: where The Textsmith’s bookmarks are commands, hande keeps every kind of bookmark, organised in categories:
- web addresses, opened in your browser;
- files and folders, opened with the program that suits them;
- commands, run from a name;
- searches, sent to the search engine you choose.
Bookmarks live in plain text files, one per category, with subcategories inside them. Open one by name, or by a chain of short keys. hande has a command line for scripts and an interactive shell for browsing, with Tab completion that works well with a screen reader. It imports and exports the bookmark files of web browsers, so your Firefox bookmarks can come along.
hande uses a syntax of its own, different from The Textsmith’s bookmarks. The two work side by side: The Textsmith for commands you run with arguments, hande for everything you open.
